Volunteers assist veterans as part of neighborhood revitalization project

Rebuilding Together Twin Cities helped veterans secure housing as a part of neighborhood revitalization projects in the Morris Park and Minnehaha neighborhoods. On May 25 and May 26, in partnership with the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans,  Rebuilding Together Twin Cities, with support from Republic Services, built wheelchair ramps at veterans' homes and complete other exterior beautification projects. With hundreds of homeless veterans and even more veterans in need of assistance, this project helped address a critical community issue.

“Our organization has installed nearly 100 ramps as part of our Safe At Home program throughout the Twin Cities community since we began in 1997,” said Kathy Greiner, executive director of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities. “Accessibility ramps allow veterans with mobility challenges to stay in their homes longer, adding to their quality of life and well-being, so this support from Republic Services is critical to our ongoing mission.”

The project was funded by a National Neighborhood Promise grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. Through National Neighborhood Promise, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation partners with select nonprofit organizations to directly support neighborhood revitalization projects and programs in local communities.
