Public safety means having someone to turn to when feeling or being threatened, or having experienced crime. It means having a law enforcement presence in public and the reduction of crime. I believe it is necessary to have officers on foot or horseback to patrol small areas, to know the residents and be part of the neighborhood. Patrol cars that cruise around come and go too quickly. Bikes are not much different than patrol cars. A Segway is a decent in-between.
Public safety also means having traffic law enforcement, working traffic lights, recurring driver education and re-licensing, protection from environmental hazards, and even corruption.
