Friendly family pickleball game

Eighty-five-year-old Gordon Everest plays pickleball with grandchildren Jordan Bailey (left in the first image) and Oyla Everest (right) and other family members at the courts next to the Nokomis Recreation Center on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025. Everest was among those who worked with the park board to get courts designed and installed after the pandemic. He's really proud of the 'open play' style for the courts – next up always plays. These six outdoor pickleball courts opened in 2023 and were the first dedicated pickleball courts in the Minneapolis park system. They are free and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis, dawn-dusk daily, unless there are scheduled lessons or leagues. (Photo by Jeremy Peyer)
