Open house on new Hiawatha Links Design Concepts set for Aug. 14

An open house on new Hiawatha Links design concepts will be held on Aug. 14, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Lake Nokomis Community Center (2401 E Minnehaha Parkway). Drop by any time between 6:30 and 8:00 pm to learn about the project, see proposed designs, and talk with the project team. No formal presentation is planned.

Light refreshments, as well as a kids activity table, will be available.

During the open house, members of the design team will be available at several stations around the gym. They’ll talk about various topics, including ecology, water resources, golf, architecture and historic resources, summer and winter recreation, and how they interface.

Large-format graphics will be displayed for each of the three concepts, including plan view and 3D renderings.

Hiawatha Links continues the vision created in the 2022 Hiawatha Golf Course Area Plan by fleshing out designs in greater detail and conducting more detailed community engagement focused on specific design elements.

"Designs covering Hiawatha Park and Golf Course area are coming into view thanks to  feedback earlier this year," according to park staff. "The input received at this open house will be used to further fine-tune proposed design alternatives and focus in on specific design elements that the community wants to see. The Hiawatha Links project will continue to look at how all the pieces fit together while respecting the site’s history, ecology, and regulatory guidelines."

Using community feedback, previous studies, and current conditions analysis, the project team will work to develop a draft schematic design plan by Winter 2025.
