Roosevelt High School Valentine's Day musical

Roosevelt High School theater department pulled together a 48-hour musical for the community on Valentine's Day. They auditioned on Wednesday for a show they did not know, received their parts and scripts Thursday afterschool, and performed Saturday night. "It was a free event for the community, to help bring some joy and togetherness in the midst of so much stress," said RHS parent Jill Carlton. "Donations were accepted with money raised for mutual aid. It was fun and the kids did amazing ... a set was built as well! The stage crew kids did amazing work in that time frame. The show was a surprise for everyone. And the theme of the month was matched as the musical was 'Newsies, Jr!'"

The spring musical this year is "The Prom" and will run Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m., Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, May 17 at 1 p.m. All theater productions at Roosevelt are free, with donations always welcome. (Photo submitted)
