The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) announced that it has named Nick Running as assistant director of data and artificial intelligence. Running will lead the MAC's enterprise data practice, overseeing geographic information system (GIS) capabilities and helping guide the organization's overall use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies to support operations and priority initiatives. The MAC owns and operates one of the largest airport systems in the country, which includes Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and six general aviation airports in the Twin Cities.

Running has more than 20 years of experience in data, analytics and technology, including management positions in corporate travel, healthcare, agriculture, employment law and software-as-a-service (SaaS). Throughout his career, he has successfully built and led analytics teams and data platforms for organizations across a variety of industries. Most recently, he served as manager of data engineering at GovDocs. Prior to that, he held leadership roles at CHS Inc., UnitedHealth Group and Ecolab.

"As the MAC works to advance our analytics capabilities and build a more connected, reliable system of data, we need leaders who can both leverage the technology and inspire staff to put new tools to work," said Eduardo Valencia, chief information officer at the MAC. "Nick's hands-on technical knowledge along with his extensive experience leading data and analytics teams will be valuable as we thoughtfully expand our usage of emerging technologies."

Running has a bachelor of science degree in management information systems and business analytics from Colorado State University-Global Campus and a technical diploma in computer technology from Minneapolis Business College.
